Early Year Foundation Stage

‘No job is more important than working with children in the early years.’

Development Matters-July 2021

In Reception, Nursery and Little Farmers we follow the Early Years Statutory Framework for the Early Years Foundation Stage and The Development Matters Non-Statutory Guidance. Our inclusive framework specifies the requirement for learning and development in the Early Years and provides specific areas of learning we cover in our curriculum. The areas that we cover in Foundation Stage are:

The Prime Areas:-

·       Personal, Social and Emotional Development

·       Physical Development

·       Communication and Language Development

The Specific Areas:-

·       Literacy

·       Mathematics

·       Understanding the World

·       Expressive Arts and Design

We aim to support children to develop key life skills such as independence, confidence, curiosity and creativity.

An important aspect of the EYFS at Lodge Farm is to develop children’s knowledge and skills through the use of continuous provision. Therefore we encourage all our children to use and develop certain skills throughout the year on a daily/weekly basis. This works alongside adult led learning where staff guide children during various activities and also when exploring the outdoor environment.

Children in the Early Years Foundation Stage have access to both indoor and outdoor learning. Our outdoor spaces have different resources and areas for children to explore the world around them and continue their learning in a different way. Children are able to access the Forest during lessons and this offers them further experience of the natural world.

Early Learning Goals

Children in Early Years are all aiming to achieve the Early Learning Goals by the end of Reception. The document below shows how our 7 areas of learning are split into 17 aspects which children must reach by the end of Reception in order to achieve a ‘Good Level of Development (GLD). Our curriculum allows children to make the necessary progress throughout Nursery and Reception in order to help them achieve these Early Learning Goals.
